What is Grendel?
Matt Wagner’s “Grendel” is a seminal indie comic that changed the landscape upon publication and has influenced generations of creators to explore the multi-layered, esoteric instincts, obsessions and dark fixations that drive us all.
From the shadows of a megalomaniac’s mind to the far reaches of the known universe, Grendel endures. We’d like to show the archetype a little love to celebrate the publication of “Grendel: Devil’s Odyssey” and examine what “Grendel” means to us all.
What draws Grendel to us, and us to Grendel? Examine the Grendel within. Tell us your story. Tell us what you love, what you hate, what drives you, what burns inside of you, what keeps that red thread pulsing between you and the masked void?
Violence begets violence. This is a series with adult themes, and this is a zine with adult themes. That said, celebrating gratuitous violence, racism, homophobia and bigotry for the sake of it is not the aim.
We know the difference between exploring themes and glorifying hate. Craft your work wisely.
The Final Product & Accountability
A digital copy (.PDF format) and a limited, hand-bound print run (TBD, dependent on volume of submissions).
We are not offering compensation for submissions, and this zine will be distributed for free. We encourage interested parties to donate to the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund for spiritual brownie points, but it won’t be a requirement to receive a copy.
